DIY: How to install Chevy Avalanche Tail Lights

There’s no question that the Chevy Avalanche is one of the most popular trucks on the road. Due to it’s popularity, many Avalanche owners use the truck for not just daily driving and weekend activities, but also for work since it’s an amazing work truck. As these trucks age, are exposed to the elements and are subject to harsh conditions, many owners find themselves needing to replace their tail lights as they get damaged, broken, sun damaged or become unusable.

We put together a video that gives you step by step instructions on how to install one of the most popular tail lights we sell for this truck, the Spec-D Chevy Avalanche LED Tail Lights (2007-2012) so you can not only see how easy it is to swap lights on this truck but also to get a demo on how these Spec-D lights look and operate in case you’re interested in upgrading yours.

Before we begin, we want to stress that we always recommend professional install and we do not take any responsibility for you trying to do this on your own. This is for informational purposes only.

For this DIY Install, you would only need two tools, the Phillips Screwdriver and a plastic pry / removal tool.

1. First, lower the lift gate to give you access to the philips screws that are holding the tail light in place.
2. Once you see the philips screws, there will be two of them. Simply remove both screws.
3. Now, take your plastic pry tool, and wedge it carefully between the tail light and the truck to get it to come loose so you can pull it out.
4. Once the tail light comes loose, simply unplug the sockets. There will be a total of 4 of them. Note which ones go where so you can replace them into your new tail lights.
5. Next, remove the brake light bulbs.
6. Take your new Spec-D LED Tail Light and plug in your tail light bulb sockets.
7. Now that all 4 plugs are back in, place the new tail light into the truck and give it a gentle push to snap it into place.
8. Put the two philips screws back in to secure the tail light.
9. Repeat these steps on the other side.
10. Lift your tail gate back up.
